Eight short documentaries by queer women of color battle injustice on multiple fronts - body, family, home, community and history. Three years in the making and we are proud to share the results of this San Francisco Bay Area collaboration with the Creative Work Fund, Locus Arts, and A&PI Wellness Center. Thanks also to all the communities who made KIEU possible: massage parlor workers, Vietnamese community members, local filmmakers, and artists who have contributed their time and talent to make this dream a reality.

  • DesiQ 2006
    -- hosted by Trikone

    June 21-24

    San Francisco, CA

Info on schedule, workshop, & registration: www.desiq.org

Trikone is proud to host DesiQ2006, a conference on South Asian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. Trikone has been instrumental in organizing a couple of historic conferences for the South Asian LGBT community. The first one, Pride Utsav was in 1995 and the second, DesiQ2000 was in 2000. Its time for the third conference, which will also commemorate Trikone's completion of 20 years.

The theme for DesiQ2000 was Unfolding Visions and it focused on issues faced by the community and its vision for the new millennium. Since then a lot has happened. Our queer community has faced some new challenges, dealt with old issues with extra complexities and won some difficult battles. We have also proudly noticed the emergence of a number of South Asian queer groups and organizations worldwide. The queer movements in South Asia have gained astonishing momentum. Yes, it is happening!

The detailed schedule will be posted as we get closer to the conference...
please check back on this website for details. In the meantime, here is an
    overview:

    Wed. June 21st
Check in, socials, and arts and entertainment for the conference begins!

Thu. June 22 and Fri. June 23rd
Most of the plenary sessions, discussions, and workshops will take place these two days concluding with the gala on Friday evening June 23rd.

    Sat. June 24th
There will be brunch gatherings and then people can either join the Dyke March (http://www.dykemarch.org/) or proceed to help decorate the float for the Pride Parade.

    Sunday June 25th
All are invited to march as a contingent with other LGBTQI people in the San Francisco Pride Parade. Come see what we can do when we come together and celebrate with 500,000 people (http://www.sfpride.org/).

Like past conferences, we anticipates a huge turnout of LGBT folks from across the country and also from outside USA. But a conference of this magnitude will require a lot of planning and the involvement of many minds and hands. So whether you are an activist, an artist, a scientist or a lawyer, this is your forum, your platform to share your ideas with, contribute your visions to and lead the South Asian Queer Community.

      THE APIQWTC SUMMER PICNIC 2006!

Summer time is almost over -- let's end it with a bang, or a goal, or a twister competition! Come join the fun that sets up the fun. So, join APIQWTC to say good bye to Summer time by doing what we APILBTs do best -- eating and fooling around!

EAT -- We'll be grillin' up all your summer time favorites, burgers, hot dogs, even grillers for the vegetarians. Come early for the eats 'cause when it gone - it's gone.

FOOL AROUND -- No, not that kind of fooling around. (ok, maybe that kind of fooling around but you're on your own for that.) We mean playing games and having tournaments with medals/prizes/trophies awarded to the winner. No need to be an uber-jock to win these tournaments. Think Pie Eating Contest and Twister... Bring your favorite sports stuff and start your own game!

CHILL -- Plenty of shade provided for those who think "people watching" should be an official Olympic sport.

Dykes bike!  Lezzies get busy!  Queers Cheer!  Jocks rock! Bi's vie!  An event full of sports, food, fun, and friends!!!

We had so much FUN every summer, so let’s do it again!  If you have them, please bring games & sports equipment! (Frisbee, Volleyball, Football, Twister…)

  • "RED DOORS"

-- Last year, APIQWTC hosted the SF launch party for the movie Saving Face, where attendees got to meet the director and Joan Chen in person. It was such a huge success, we're doing it again!

The RED DOORS San Francisco Opening Night Party was on Friday, September 22, 7 - 11pm, at Thai Stick, 2001 Fillmore Street (at Pine), San Francisco. It was hosted by APIQWTC, Center for Asian American Media, and Frameline.

But, you can still visit theater near you to catch RED DOORS.

RED DOORS opened last weekend as the top grossing film per screen in the country. In an otherwise dismal box office weekend, RED DOORS grossed a total of $35,050 on two screens in New York City for a per screen average of $17,525. RED DOORS will continue to run in New York City this week and will expand to Los Angeles and San Francisco on September 22.
