Screening of "The Children We Sacrifice: a new video on incest"

Directed by Grace Poore and sponsored by Narika. This is a compelling documentary to help change beliefs and perceptions that permit sexual abuse of girl children. It reveals the social and cultural resistance in South Asia and the Diaspora to dealing with why incest happens and how it affects victims. It presents the irony of home as a source of refuge and source of violation, family as source of comfort and source of betrayal. This is as much a video that validates survivors of incest as it is a call to examine how we expose children to sexual abuse with households and families.

Grace Poore, a South Asian activist, produces and uses videos to advocate for an end to violence against women. She has worked in the U.S. battered women's movement and gives campus and community workshops within and outside the U.S. She started Shakti Productions in 1989.

6:15 p.m. Refreshments served
6:30 p.m. Screening of "The Children We Sacrifice"
