Transgress, Transform,
Transcend!
A National Conference of
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ)
Asian Americans, South
Asians and Pacific
Islanders (API)
Register now!
Momentum is building for
the approaching
conference "Transgress,
Transform, Transcend"
which will take place
August 14th to 16th in
Seattle at the
University of
Washington. The on-line
registration for the
gathering has been
extended to Friday,
August 7th, 2009.
Conference organizers
anticipate over 250
attendees and volunteers
from across the country
to participate in the
national convening.
Conference Coordinator
Norma Timbang commented,
"This is such a unique
opportunity! We rarely
get an opportunity to
meet each other
face-to-face. This is
where our communities
can build crucial
alliances, share
successful strategies,
and move beyond our
everyday politics in an
era ripe for change."
Conference organizers
encourage attendees to
register for the
conference if they have
not done so - because
after the on-line
registration, the
standard registration
rate will increase from
$100 to $125, and
registration for the
conference will be
available only on-site
at the convening.
Packed into the 3-day
event are more than 70
keynote, plenary,
workshop and caucus
sessions. Some of
scheduled speakers and
performers include Mia
Mingus, Dakota Camacho,
D'Lo, Good Asian
Drivers, and Shirley Tan
and Jay Mercado. For a
complete list of
conference program
sessions, please visit
www.nqapia.org/nc-2009.html.
On the Saturday evening
of August 15th, 2009,
the dinner gala event
"Trans*Fusion" will
showcase some of the
talents within the Asian
Pacific Islander LGBTQ
communities. Tickets to
the gala can be
purchased as part of the
